PRICE OF COAL

PRICE OF COAL

They were carried here

The dead , dying and injured

Then gently washed and tendered

Walls still whispering

With soft voices of nurses and doctors

The brave cries of wounded men

In ----- the medical room

By Henrhyde (gill)

BIG PIT , Blaenavon , South Wales

In this room was a bath, with a sling –where the men were washed , before treatment.

Sights and sounds ,here must have been harrowing at times.

My own Great Grandfather died in a roof fall – coroner’s verdict – “ broken back -accident “

He was 58 – still working underground., in 1938
