The provided cover is from National Geographic, illustrating a young woman from Afghanistan and is a classic example of the use of alignment in graphic design.

 

The use of alignment is visible throughout the design. The picture is centered within the yellow field, creating an easily identifiable brand and background for whatever image is used in the cover.

 

The main titles and magazine information are center aligned, while the table of contents are aligned image left.

 

As the eye is drawn through the image, the table of contents is easily parsed without breaking the beauty of the image behind it.
