Storm Clouds on Kiagar Tso

We were on the road for some 8 hours driving South-South-East from Leh, crossing the barren, oxygen-starved landscape in Ladakh when we started climbing and gaining altitude. As we topped this high-altitude pass called Kiagar La ("La" meaning "Pass" in Tibetan) and got our first glimpse of Kiagar Tso (Tso, meaning Lake), shimmering like an oasis in the late afternoon sun. To give you a scale of the distances, it took us more than 30 minutes to drive around the lake, its that large. Distances, because of the barrenness in Ladakh, can be deceptive. The altitude where this pic was taken was some 16,700 ft. Metalled road ends here and the rest of the drive to Tso Moriri is on dirt roads and moraine.
