The Road to the Northern Plains

This is your main "highway" leading to Tso Kar, driving towards Leh on the way back from Tso Moriri. "Tso", meaning Lake. As I look back, standing at 14,000 ft, towards the snow-capped mountains I look for the high altitude pass that I just crossed, the ridge on the left. Its some 16,000 ft high, bleak and very windy. Theres no respite from the sun in these high altitudes. The last tree I saw was 2 days ago. My face was burnt a red bronze, lips chapped, as I sought the shade from the shadow of my car. But at noon, there was no such respite. Ladakh.
