The Wall and Wormwood

www.anindodeyphotography.com

Typical landscape on the roof of the world. The Tibetan plateau is mostly thousands of feet above the treeline and similar is the case with the Changthang or Northern Plains or Ladakh. What you see are high snow-capped ridges and peaks and the land speckled with wormwood. Its stark, dreary and exquisite! This shot was taken in Tso Kar, a salt water lake at about 14,000 ft. It was cold, probably around 0 degrees, in the peak of summer going by the fact that the water in the camp toilet tank was frozen! Oxygen was very low. The wall was probably built by shepherds as barriers against the cold winds for their camps.
