Raisina Hill, New Delhi
Raisina Hill is an area of Lutyens' Delhi, housing India's most important government buildings, including Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India and the Secretariat building housing the Prime Minister's Office and several other important ministries. It is surrounded by other important buildings and structures, including the Parliament of India, Rajpath, Vijay Chowk and India Gate.
Each year, the buildings on the "hill", which includes the South Block on the left (Ministry of External Affairs) and North Block on the right (Home Ministry), and Rashtrapatu Bhavan (the little dome in the center) are lit up to celebrate India's birth as a Republic (January 26, 1950). The lights stay on till January 29's "Beating the Retreat" ceremony on Vijay Chowk (Victory Square), the site of this photo. This site is, arguably, the most dramatic architectural setting for the residence of any Head of State across the world
