Walking Away
This magnificent tigress, also known as T8, walks away back into the dense forest in Ranthambhore after giving us the view of a lifetime! She is known as a shy tigress, seldom viewed as she keeps away from people, so seeing her was a massive bonus. Zone 6 is also the farthest extreme of her natural territory. Her territory ranges from Zones 7 and 8 and considering that a tiger needs a territory of around 50 square kilometres, thats a massive area to look, given that most of the National Park in Ranthambhore is dense forest. Ladli has two cubs, one of whom has grown up big enough to warrant his own name, T62.
Captured here at the maximum length of my zoom lens (300 mmm four-thirds, 600 mm standard) in poor light as she was walking back into the jungle. She looks tame here but we are in the territory of the queen of the jungle. As we have experienced in the past, dynamics change in the split of a second when a tiger is angry or irritated and have been known to attack. Imaging then, the roar of a charging tiger, with real life dolby stereophonic surround sound in an unprotected open vehicle with nothing but your camera between you and the tiger. We have experienced it and its the most frightening experience in a lifetime!
