"Wild Peter"

Bollard finial designed by Oliver Creed, depicting Peter, the Wild Boy, a feral youth who was found naked in a forest near Hameln in northern Germany in 1725. He attracted the attention of George, Duke of Hanover and King of England, was brought to London and became quite a pet of society and the court, but when attempts to educate him proved fruitless, he was pensioned off and sent to live on a farm in Hertfordshire. In 1751 he was found living rough on the streets of Norwich. As he never learned to speak, and showed no sense of direction, he was fitted with a collar requesting anyone who found him to return him to the farm. He eventually died in 1785.

On path between St Andrews Hill and Bridewell Alley, Norwich.
