Joseph Wright
Tombstone of the artist Joseph Wright (1734-1797), popularly known as Joseph Wright of Derby, best known for his paintings that make dramatic use of light and shadow, such as A Lecture on the Orrery (Derby Art Gallery) and An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump (National Gallery, London).
The tombstone was originally in the now-demolished St Alkmund's Church, and was installed in the cathedral in 2002. It is known to be a re-used medieval vault marker.
