Tomb of Catherine Mompesson

The wife of the Rector, who died of the plague during the village's self-isolation in August 1666.

She was the only plague victim to be buried in the churchyard; others were interred in fields and gardens as a precautionary measure.

St Lawrence's churchyard, Eyam, Derbyshire
