Swaddled baby

Wall decoration on the site of the former Infants Hospital in Udall Street (formerly Alfred Street), London SW1.

The hospital was founded in 1906, and amalgamated with the Westminster Hospital 40 years later; the buildings have now been converted into flats.

According to the website www.londonremembers.com/memorials/infants-hospital-baby-1, the figures were inspired by della Robbia's 15th-century carvings on the Hospital of the Innocents in Florence.
