Bishop Aelfhun
Portland Stone statue of Aelfhun, Bishop of Dunwich, who died in Sudbury in AD 798, sculpted by Alan Micklethwaite and unveiled by Terry Waite in 1999.
The bishop's death here meant that the town got a mention in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, making it Suffolk's oldest recorded town.
Originally the figure held a crosier, but this seems to have been lost to the ravages of time.
