Jhamu Yatra on Maha Vishuva Sankranti also know as Pana Sankranti

 

Jhamu Yatra is popular festival celebrated in Odisha. On the occasion, devotees collect sacred water from river and offer pray to the deity to get her blessings. The devotees then walk on the burning wood charcoal filled in a channel. It is belived the goddess saves them from any mishap while walking on burning charcoal.

 

It is celebrated as the first day of the Odia calendar across the State. It marks the end of spring and beginning of summer.

 

A special drink called pana, prepared from a mixture of Bael fruit (stone apple or wood apple), Yoghurt and Paneer (cottage cheese), banana, Sattu (flour of horse gram) is consumed by the people after offering it to the Tulsi (Holy Basil)Plant
