espresso stand - fumed white oak

This stand, for my beloved Astoria, is made of two vintages of white oak. Top and drawer are from a batch of old white oak given to me as a legal "fee". Legs and cross members came from a plank of white oak I bought after watching an enlightening video on grain orientation for furniture legs - by a teacher from Krenov's school (College of the Redwoods) in California.

Before fuming with concentrated ammonia, all the wood was the same color. The legs and cross members were darkened the old-fashioned way, with the ammonia fumes and then oil - a very cool process. The old wood in the top and drawer was not fumed, only oiled, leaving the original color.

The drawer is made like a box; dovetailed all around. It now has a handle.
