Contaflex S

A Contaflex S, bought for a song on EBay with the understanding that the meter did not work and the rest was as-is. I was delighted that the meter did work after a cursory cleaning of the battery compartment.

It's the first "automatic" (shutter priority) 35mm SLR I know of. But the technological marvel to me is the flashmatic feature. You set the guide number(!), the camera sets the aperture and restricts the focus range...mechanically!!! This was all obsolete in a few years. But it is a thing of beauty.

Synchro-Compur shutter, 50mm Tessar lens, non-return mirror (like a Hasselblad), and those graphics! It was the Flashmatic logo on top that sold me. It reminded me of the Jacques Tati movie, Mon Oncle.

The pictures in the Contaflex S set were on automatic.

Update: meter works most of the time and when it does it's accurate
