Equisetum hyemale
Scouring-rush, Equisetum hyemale (Equisetaceae) is a seedless vascular plant of a type (horsetails and scouring-rushes) that traditionally were placed in their own Division (Equisetophta, Sphenophyta) but have recently been found to be a sister group to ferns and so are now placed along with ferns in the Division Pteridophyta. INH recognition of this relationship, a new common name is hereby proposed: "tube-ferns"! This specimen was photogrpahed August 2, 2009 in Marion County, Ohio.
