Henry's Tamiya 1/35th British Special Air Service Jeep

More tiny amazingness from Henry!

"I'm really enjoying mixing up what I build lately and this Desert Raider was a 1/4 tonne of fun ;)

I've always been an aircraft buff, but I do have a certain appreciation for military vehicles; especially ones from our history.

While building this I was fascinated by the idea of desert raids with these vehicles. They were ridiculously armed and loaded to fight. The idea of maximum surprise, speed and violence of action...and let's not forget fighting in shorts with no body armour! Very Daring Indeed! As a contemporary soldier, the idea is just so crazy, but infinitely compelling.

I didn't add specialty aftermarket (but believe me I was tempted). Most of the kit parts were used (minus the figures, that's a skill set I need to develop). I replaced the Browning M2 with one from a later Tamiya accessory kit which also came with a .50cal belt. The Sten is from a Tamiya Staghound kit. I also used a shell from a Tamiya 25 Pounder Field gun kit to add something special behind the driver's seat (I was inspired by a photo I saw when researching references). And I fashioned a basic sighting system from a PE carrier tie down eye for the twin Vickers K machine guns. "
