20097+20147 Stanton Gate
With space becoming scarce for stored locos on the main Toton site in the mid to early nineties a number of stored class 20 locomotives were moved to Stanton Gate just to the north of the yard / depot. From memory these locos were visible off the M1 to the left when travelling southbound. One day on a visit to Toton from Sheffield I sought out the line of withdrawn locos to record them for posterity sake. Amazing some 20 years on the old workhorses are still pounding the tracks of the network some probably working on spares recovered from these stored locos.
Although I'm not sure of the date of this shot, this pair appear in the Summer/ Autumn 1990 platform 5 Motive Power book as stored at Stanton Gate, whilst not in the Spring 1991 edition, unlike 20045 and neighbours which appear in the 1991 edition, but not the 1990. 20097 was officially withdrawn September 1989, being cut up at MC Metals in Glasgow in October 1991.
