BEA Vanguard G-APEI taxiing in at Manchester, early 1970's.
As the file name says, from my collection and NOT a photo taken by me. I would guess this photo was taken in the early 1970's and from my knowledge of Manchester airport back then, the aircraft is clearly taxiing towards rather than away from its stand, on the Domestic pier. I would also guess that it was replacing a Trident or Super One-Eleven on the run from Heathrow, as I believe occasionally happened up to about 1973, I think, following Tridents taking over the Heathrow run from those lovely Vanguards in late 1969. Absolutely classic Manchester and Vanguard shot from that era-and I might well have been there myself that day, as I began spotting at Manchester in April 1971. Sadly though, I never got a decent shot of a BEA Vanguard-too busy taking down registrations; and didn't get my first decent camera till late 1973. In the background, on the International pier, a BOAC Super VC10 awaits its passengers for a trans-Atlantic service.
