OS Stiletto project

My signature treatment for the top of the seat stays on the bike frames that I build are these pointy little top eyes that my pal Pierre named "Stilettos". I use them in conjunction with 16mm double tapered seat stays, and they're designed to fit into the top of the stays with no trimming. All the trimming is typically done off the bottom of the stays. I'm doing a bike now that's got a short seat tube. That means the seat stays need to be very short too. If I did it my usual way the bottom of the stay would have so much cut off the taper that it would wind up being really fat and clunky looking. I decided to compromise and trim both ends. Once I cut the top end off the stays my Stilettos didn't fit anymore, so I had to make a special over-sized pair. This series of images shows the sequence. Note that I turn a taper on the blanks that matches the taper of the stays before I mill the facets. The taper is very subtile, and I could skip that step, but I know that they wouldn't look quite right.
