For the first time in NHRA national event history, qualifying and eliminations for Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle at an NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event was conducted four-wide at the inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, March 25-28, at zMAX Dragway.
There was an expected amount chaos and confusion at the start, but once the choreography was figured out, four-wide drag racing was as thrilling as advertised.
"Picture trying to dance with four women at the same time," John Force said. "You are trying to keep everybody happy because they said they'll have fistfights at the other end if you hang anybody out.
Q-Day - Saturday began on a chilly note and was a bit delayed while the NHRA Safety Safari worked to warm the racing surface to an acceptable temperature, but competition was soon underway and the final two qualifying sessions of four-wide drag racing included a collection of impressively quick and thunderous passes to thrill the throngs of fans filling the stands.
