1: What are you wearing?

Black cords and a long-sleeved t-shirt

 

2: Something about you that nobody ever knew?

Nobody? Well, here's something that only a few people knew: as a kid I was convinced that I would someday be on the Tonight Show -- for what particular talent, I wasn't sure. But that I would someday be talking to Johnny Carson, I was quite sure. Hmmmm.

 

3: Biggest phobias?

4: How tall are you?

I like to say 5'7" but I'm not quite there...probably more like 5'6 1/2" (and shrinking)

 

5: Ever been in love?

Oh yes.

 

6: Any tattoos that you want?

I got my first tattoo when I was 18 and of course they're pretty addictive. If I had a logical spot for another one, I would love to get a wee Singer Featherweight.

 

7. Any piercing that you want?

Okay, so I think I'm a bit outside the target demographic for this list! I have multiple ear piercings and not really in the market for anything else.

I'm way out of the loop nowadays, but was once really into (then) current music; loved Parliament and anything George Clinton touched, early Prince, Dee-lite, Al Green; also, in a different vein, Style Council, Shriekback, Matt Johnson...like many 40-somethings I'm stuck in a time warp. Mostly I listen to jazz, r & b and classical music.

 

11. something that you miss

Hmmm. I sometimes miss being young(er), but generally I'm pretty happy with exactly where I am.

I don't really have one, but this week my littlest kid and I have been dancing to Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Coming."

After my high school yearbook fiasco I am going to pass on this one.

 

17: Favourite singer?

Depends on when you ask me...I love crooners from the 30s, Russ Columbo, Ruth Etting, but my taste is pretty wide-ranging.

 

18: Favourite colour?

I love blue, purple, green and orange. And slate grey. And pink. And black. I'm apparently not very good at this game.

 

19: Loud music or soft?

Loud

 

20: Where do you go when you're sad?

Bed or a hot bath (or some combination of the two).

 

21: How long does it take you to shower?

About 5 minutes. I'm super quick, very low maintenance.

 

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

I have to get up at 5:30 a.m.on teaching days, so I get ready quite quickly...and then dawdle over tea and e-mail.

 

23: Ever been in a physical fight?

No.

 

24: Turn on?

Intelligence.

 

25: Turn off?

Sweat that smells like rancid butter...some people have that.

 

26: The reason I joined Flickr?

I think it was to start commenting on particular quilt photos, but very soon after I got involved in several VQBs.

Having to identify a favourite colour, quote, or singer...!

 

28: Last thing that made you cry?

Realizing that all my most important parenting work with my son was now done. He has left for university. His childhood went by in a flash.

I teared up yesterday after shopping for wool coating with my friend Melinda.

It combines my research specialization (Folklore & history of the fairy tale) with my sewing passion.

Abel's Island by William Steig...but I was teaching it, so maybe that doesn't count? Last novel read for pleasure only: Washington Square by Henry James.

I texted with my 15-year-old daughter.

I love the northern Chinese-style wonton soup at Mother's Dumplings, loaded with seaweed.

I'd love to go to Italy again, with more time to explore and with my partner. Also Spain and Portugal....

Guelph, Ontario...for work so maybe that doesn't count. Before that it would be Boston.

Uhhh not really, not too into celebs, although I was once pretty keen on Ewan MacGregor. I'll play it safe and say my hubby.

About 5 minutes ago. I have a 3 year-old so I get a LOT of kisses.

There was a situation at work that I can't discuss. I swallowed it and managed to get everything back on track... proud of that.

I'd like to think so, but to be honest I think I'm a funny mix: very warm with some people and in some contexts and not-so-much in others.
