Week 15 - Holly RIP 12/4/2012

It has been a very sad week this week. This is a picture taken last year of Holly, one of our 3 rescue cats. I don't have a recent picture of Holly and I particularly like this shot as it just sums her up which is why I have indulged myself and used it for my View 52. I wouldn't want to have used a recent picture anyway as she did look so terribly thin.

Nick and I "inherited" Holly in 2000. She was a fully grown cat then and we had no idea how old she was. She was living with a colleague of mine who couldn't look after anymore and knew I had cats, so asked if I would take her. Cat count now became 3. She was always quite an aloof cat - didn't ever really want to come and be fussed but would occasionally come and sit on your lap. Over the past month or so, she became terribly thin and we decided it was time to go to the vets. I had a feeling she was coming to the end of her days. The vet said she may have diabetes, thyroid issues or renal failure. She also said Holly was about 18-20yrs old! (This remarkable old lady cat was still chasing leaves round our garden last Autumn - that will be a treasured memory for me seeing her do that with her ears all pinned back and catching any leaf that dared to fall in our garden!) To cut a long story short, Holly died on Nick's lap at 8 20pm Thursday 12th April 2012. It was all very peaceful. It has been quite surprising to both Nick and myself how hard it has hit us but things are getting better - and we still have the other 2 who are spoiled rotten even more so now ;-)
