Crown, spike and ball

I thought I'd have another play with water today because I'd got an hour and a half to sort a shot out for today. These shots are still not quite what I wanted but it's getting there. I did get really frustrated at one point and had to walk away before I dunked the camera in the water! Any tips anyone? Focus is my main issue. I don't have a macro lens, so these are done with extension tubes - is that why focus is a problem or have I just got poor technique?
