Ice Hotel

Ice Hotel completely made of Ice and Snow. There's only about 5 ice hotels in the world. 4 of them in Europe (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Romania) and only 1 in North America. The one in Finland, I think, is just made only out of snow, ... so technically, not an ice hotel, though.

Every year they are reconstructed from scratch and usually they are open from about early January - until about late March/Early April (depending on which one you go to)

The first ice hotel was constructed in Sweden, in 1990. And the others gradually followed. This one is built from (about) 15000 tons of snow and 5000 tons of ice. There's an ice bar (literally an ice bar) where they serve drinks in glasses (made completely from ice) and they have a main room, an ice chapel (yes, they hold wedding ceremonies - if you like to get married there). And they also have 36 rooms made out of snow - the beds are completely made of ice, though. Oh yeah, they had an ice slide, too ... LOL (fun for the kids and adults, also).

Some of the rooms (yes, you can rent a room for the night if you want) are heated with furnaces, some not ... and some of the rooms have "themes". Some rooms are sculpted with elaborate snow carvings, though some of the rooms are ordinary (no sculptures, just plain snow walls). They have single, double and even triple beds in some of the rooms.

The inside temperature remains at about -3 to -5 (regardless of the outside temperature) because of the thick insulation provided by the snow walls. And it can get pretty cold outside in January and February (down to -30, even -40 with the windchill).

Nice place to visit, and an unique experience, if you ever get a chance to visit one of these ice hotels. (Though I went when the temperature was much warmer ... LOL !!! )
