Tatra 17/31 Phaeton 1927 (12V0425)
I didn't expect to find so many pre-war Tatras on this small town classic car meeting. This top of the line 17 surely was the treat. 450 17's were built, of which 250 with the bigger 31 engine.
The 17 was the first top Tatra to have the central chassis. This one was converted to a fire engine in 1934. Then the story remains hidden, until it was rediscovered in 2002 to be restored to its factory state, first presented in 2015.
The wheel base is over 3.5 meters. I saw the driver struggling to get this car over the meeting grounds towards the presentation area. It seems out of place in town, it is meant to drive distances with its (for the time) bizarre top speed of 110 km/h.
