Baltimore Orioles Return
Baltimore Orioles Return: “Explored Image”: Each year we are privileged to have a plentiful supply of Orioles at our woodland home. Shortly after returning this year they disappeared as females began nest building. Their nest is a tightly woven pouch located on the end of a branch, hanging down on the underside. Trees such as cottonwoods, maples, willows or apple are regularly selected, with the nest usually located (23 to 30 ft) above the ground. The female lays three to seven eggs, with the norm being around four. The eggs are pale gray to bluish white. While nesting the adults will disappear for 2-3 weeks from feeders preferring protein of insects over seeds or fruit. Today the adults and their young returned to our feeders for cut oranges and grape jelly again. We go through over 16 oz of grape jelly per day keeping them and ourselves happy all summer. Get your feeders out......and keep plenty of "Grape Jelly" on hand. They will come.....if you are consistent.
