Hans Blab
Blab was a decorated member of the Waffen SS which was the military branch of this Nazi Party organization. The Nuremburg Trials found the organization to be a criminal enterprise responsible for numerous war crimes, and members and their families were denied military benefits after the war unless the member was conscripted. As a member of a Pionier unit, Blab clearly saw a lot of combat as he won the Iron Cross First and Second Class, the Wound Badge in Silver and the Close Combat clasp. He was killed in action southwest of Kharkov in September 1943 during the German retreat after the battle of Kursk. His presence there near Kharkov probably means that he was a member of one of the elite divisions composing Hausser's Panzer Korps.
