German Sniper

Postcard from an album which had a caption referencing the soldier providing respects to an observer who had been killed. The dealer apparently removed the postcard from the album after photographing it for Ebay.

I was interested in the photo in part because of the reference to the observer, Brett's image of the sniper who was killed by a head shot (probably by an Allied sniper ) and Brett's reference to an article by a British soldier stating there was a cottage industry in creating dummies back in Britain to send to the front and draw German sniper fire. The angle of the bullet trail in the dummy could then be used to closely approximate the location of the sniper who could then be located and killed. It seems that the British and Germans were particularly interested in measures to locate and kill opposing snipers.
