aTEST SHOT DSC_1974
Lapwing
A distant shot brought close by using my Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6 lens, for the first time ever.
The bird sat way out on the scrapes at Woolston Eye’s Nature Reserve, in Warrington. Primarily I’d only taken the lens out for its first time in the field to test the new Manfrotto 393 heavy duty gimbal head – which I’d also purchased specifically for the ‘Sigmonster’ to sit upon. Having pre-set the gimbal head prior to leaving home I have subsequently put more friction on the turning base….I found I was swinging the lens too freely and could easily get unwanted movement in shots.
The image was captured at 100 ISO, f/5.6, with the shutter at 1/1000 sec, and the lens turned out fully at 800mm…..also using my Nikon D7100 camera body. (and obviously on my Manfrotto tripod set-up)
I have to say, the results, considering the harsh light and only being out for an hour testing my tripod rig and taking ‘snap-shots’, turned out superb !! Congrats to Sigma for manufacturing such a fine piece of glass !!! I can’t wait to get the lens into some proper photography situations !
