The ship carried twelve first class passengers and was well appointed.
It had a swimming pool and a large bar for the passengers and senior staff.
In 1963, I was junior Radio Officer to a chap from Liverpool and between us we kept a distress watch for 16 hours a day, the remaining 8 hours being covered by an automatic alarm system.
My accommodation was a bit lower class, being a supernumery cabin near the midships hatch. The nearest heads were a long way away which could be a trifle "inconvenient" in the middle of the night.
A typical 51 day round trip took 17days to get to Buenos Aires where general cargo was discharged and chilled beef loaded at Dock Sud & then possibly on to La Plata or Montevideo for more cargo, all taking around 17days & then back to the UK in 17 days with stops for bunkers at Cape Verde Islands or Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Occasionally there would be diversions to Cadiz or Vigo and then Rotterdam or Dublin before making for the Thames and around 17 days leave.
