Goat Inn Public House, 39 Bottle Bank, Gateshead, c1926

Bottle Bank and Bridge Street, with the north end of the High Street formed the main business and shopping streets of Gateshead until their demolition from the 1930s onwards. The name of this street is derived from the saxon word ‘botl’ meaning settlement or dwelling. It is sometimes erroneously called ‘Battle Bank’
