The ritual
While living in Ironwood, Michigan I spent many a Saturday driving around looking for trains to shoot on the nearby Wisconsin Central lines. Often there were no movements to be found and a stop in Mellen, Wisconsin would reveal this scene: the southbound Ashland turn tied down at the edge of town waiting for a crew to show up and take it south. The switch in the foreground leads to a lumber mill across the street that the WC was serving at the time.
