The "Keluarga Paduan Angklung" Group The KPA 3 Bandung, West Java

This picture was taken by the "Keluarga Paduan Angklung" Group from High School Number 3 of Bandung, West Java performed at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna on 8 July 2010.

 

The KPA 3 Bandung is unique because it specialises in using the angklung, a traditional musical instrument from West Java. It is made from bamboo and has been existence for centuries.

 

However, it is due to groups like the KPA 3 Bandung that the angklung has been given an update. Not only has the KPA 3 Bandung used live angklung music to accompany traditional dances. It has also arranged Western Music, including the Radetzky March, to be played with the angklung-giving all renditions a distinct twist.
