Germany - Cochem - Reichsburg (Imperial Castle)

Cochem, Reichsburg (Imperial Castle)

The imperial castle of Cochem is enthroned majestically on the 154-meter-high Burgberg in the middle of the city. It was built around 1000, destroyed in 1689 and rebuilt in 1874-1877.

The present appearance of the castle is strongly influenced by the buildings rebuilt in the 19th century, which often include or build on medieval buildings. Romanesque or Gothic elements can be found in the ring wall, the north gate, the octagonal tower, the witches 'tower and the building in which the knights' hall is located.

From mid-March to November, 40-minute guided tours take place daily at short, regular intervals between 09:00 and 17:00.
