last minute quarantine
I was only a quarter mile from hoping on the ramp towards Cline Ave south and my route home when a quick blip came over AAR 25 on my scanner. Just about the last thing I expected, but, IHB's 122 job was on The Pass and requesting to head for Miller.
The overwhelming majority of moves to and from the IHB on the 4 tracks east of Kennedy Ave and Gibson Interlocking funnel towards CSX's Porter Branch which crosses the ex-EJE, now CN superhighway to Kirk just out of view to the left. To be more precise, a good amount of these moves do use the track that 122 is on, as behind me is the connection going from the IHB Gary Branch towards the Michigan Central. Beyond that switch on the Gary Branch though, this is the only traffic you'll see, and it has taken me a while to stumble into it!
122 heads east across the J at Ivanhoe, bound for an industrial park 2 1/2 miles away. This small stretch of the former reach all the way out to Burns Harbor keeps the Gary Branch alive to this day.
