Guang Gong

Una de las grandes figuras que se encuentran en los templos budistas chinos, es el bodhisattva Guan Gong, personaje histórico, elevado a los altares, y venerado en los templos como gran protector y guardián del dharma. Su figura es imponente. Parece extraño que en el budismo haya representaciones de guerreros con rostros iracundos. Su postura beligerante amedrenta impidiendo la entrada del mal, pues su trabajo es proteger a los bienhechores. Su incorporación al budismo, procedente de las creencias populares, es parte de la historia del budismo en China.

 

One of the great figures found in Chinese Buddhist temples is the bodhisattva Guan Gong, a historical figure raised to altars and venerated in temples as a great protector and guardian of dharma. His figure is imposing. It seems strange that in Buddhism there are representations of warriors with angry faces. His belligerent posture frightens, preventing the entry of evil, since his job is to protect the benefactors. His incorporation into Buddhism, coming from popular beliefs, is part of the history of Buddhism in China.
