A rather painful attempt to stitch together two images from the Mass at Walsingham last week . . . to give an impression of what happens there . . .
On the right, David, our server, (in the red shirt) sits nearest to the credence table, so that he can assist Fr. Burgess ( known affectionately as 'Fr-Noddy' ! ) with the ablutions, etc.
On the left, the gentleman in the grey shirt, is Louis Lewis, a retired legal-eagle . .
who, I believe, used to be a High-Court-Judge . . . and now does much good voluntary work for the Guild-of-All-Souls ~ including fulfilling the role of Sacristan . .
being responsible for the vestry, and its contents.
When a Parish Church congregation comes to Walsingham on a Pilgrimage, our little chapel is filled to over-flowing . . but on quiet days, like last Tuesday, we were the only four people present .... but Jesus said "Whenever two or three are gathered together in My Name . . There am I ~ in the midst of them . . .
What a wonderful promise !
I took the photo, from my 'usual-seat' at the back of the chapel . . from which I can see through the outside door to my right . . . and open it for the celebrant when he arrives, carrying the chalice.
"I had rather be a door-keeper, in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of un-Godliness" ...... Psalm 84
What a wonderful psalm this is ! . . . one of my special favourites . . . and it goes hand-in-hand with my intense love of this beautiful chapel of All-Souls . . .
Oh, How amiable are Thy dwellings, Thou Lord of Hosts . . .
My soul hath a desire and longing, to enter into the Courts of the Lord . . .
My Heart and my Flesh Rejoice in the Living God.
Blessed are they that dwell in Thy House . . . They will be always praising Thee . .
Blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee . . . In whose heart are Thy Ways . .
For the Lord God is a light and defence . . .
And no good thing shall He with-hold from them that live a Godly Life . .
O Lord God of Hosts . . . Blesed is the man who putteth his trust in Thee !
