Picture 010 . . . Geoff in Hospital !! ~ with Gastro-Enteritis !!!
Thank you ~ to Bon & Han . . who both jumped-in to the comment-box within seconds of the photo appearing . . . I'm O.K. now, thanks to the wonderful treatment I received today at the U.M.C. ~
The "University Medical Centre" . . . a state-of-the-art Research Institute, Doctors' Training College, and District Hospital . . . all in one vast building, run by the de-la-Salle University, across the road !!
I had a bad stomach-upset mid-week ~ and expected a plain diet to put it right quickly . . .
But unfortunately, it got much worse ~ leading to Diarrhoea & sickness by the weekend.
My family here insisted on taking me to U.M.C. ~ where I spent most of Sunday, being thoroughly
tested, assessed, and diagnosed !
I told the young doctor that I never eat "street-corner-food" here, but that I am addicted to ice-skramble !!
He told me that ice-skramble is one of the commonest causes of tummy-trouble, because much of it is made using 'tap-water' ~ not purified drinking water !" . . and many manufacturers use cheap imported powdered skimmed-milk from China, which has not been Pasteurized !!
A further discussion with the doctor, after he had examined my 'samples', led us to conclude that my tummy-trouble was nothing to do with ice-skramble . . . in fact, it probably wasn't food-related !
They found Amoeboid parasites in my stools, of the kind which lurk in foul water in a stagnant river . . . so my attack may have been started by a bite from a mosquito ~ which had recently hatched near the sewage-works !!
I was examined within two minute of arriving at the Emergency-Unit . . and discharged five hours later with a raft of anti-biotics and 'electrolytes' to top-up my potassium deficiency.
This delightful little nurse, just 17 years old, is positioning the last few electrodes for my ECG.
The results were shown-to-me, and explained, on the spot . . . as the print-out appeared.
The results of the blood-tests were revealed six minutes later ( not sent to my G.P. next week !! )
Total cost was about 53-pounds-sterling . . . an amazing service . . .
They are light-years ahead of the U.K. !!!
