Swifts over Suffolk
Aug 1: Just as our lovely swifts are about to depart, I've finally completed this collage which aims to celebrate these super "black arrows" which do so much to brighten our skies in summer. Inspired by their arrival in Bungay, back in May, I was so drawn to these amazing creatures that I created a linocut featuring 3 swifts. The idea for this collage came on a later mixed media workshop with my inspiring art teacher Michele. And this is the result...the background consists of a page taken from an old map, swift silhouettes cut out from card, painted shadows, watercolour and wax crayons applied to greaseproof paper and fine cotton webbing to add texture. A laquered door from an old Chinese cabinet is currently acting as an interesting frame! Will be very sad to see the swifts depart but at least I'll have this to remember them by...
