Hardworking Horses of Mackinac Island
Mackinac Island is an island and resort area covering 3.8 square miles in Lake Huron, between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Motorized vehicles have been prohibited on the island since 1898 and travel on the island is either by foot, bicycle, or horse-drawn carriage. There are teams of horses everywhere as they transport all the supplies that arrive from the mainland for delivery to the hotels, restaurants and homes. The entire island is listed as a National Historic Landmark and is well known for its famous Victorian Grand Hotel, Lilac Festival and fudge! My husband and I were married on the island and we go back every few years because it’s so romantic . . . well, okay, it’s really because of the fudge! Textures by Kerstin Frank art and skeletalmess.
