Final.
The 1966 Barris Batmobile is one of the components of the new 76052 LEGO 1966 Batman Batcave.
The first version of the car was a part of my Batmobile explorations (the other that happened being the Tim Burton inspired Batmobile used in Jokerland), and was called finished "for now" in late 2012 or early 2013.
The first draft differed only in minor details from the final version though. Most imprtant changes are the wheels and the stud shooters on the hood. Both elements not avaliable at the time I build the car. Other changes were limited to cleaning up the volume or changing the chassis for the new wheels.
The finished model might seem simple at first glance, not much crazy connections or world changing SNOTs going on here. This is mostly due to the way I work, constantly trying to make my models for the youngest audience possible, and adjusting them "up" as I move along.
In August 2013 my Boss (who's identity shall remain secret), and the LEGO Superheroes Core Team went to Los Angeles (because of reasons), and the little Batmobile happened to be in their luggage with other stuff.
After they came back I recieved the Batmobile back. Signed. By George Barris, the King of Kustoms himself.
Turns out someone my Boss met during his trip told him that Barris' shop was only a few blocks away from wherever they were at that time.
During a break they just went there, and hit the Jackpot. George himself was present, and they spent some time with him photographing his stuff for me, getting some goodies, posing for pics and signing the Batmobile...
After they came back I got the model, buisness cards and a bunch of pics and viedos.
The signed Batmobile remained how it was when I got it after the US trip. Not a sinlge brick was changed.
It recieved it's own acrylic box to keep dust off it and went on display at my office. It is only now, after such a long time, that I can show it and the pics I got together with it.
Fast forward to late 2014, I was asked to come up with the rest of the TV show, and the Batcave together with the Batcopter and all the other iconic elements of the series is the result of it.
I was heartbroken as I found out that George, who was one of my personal heroes, passed away in late 2015, and therefore couldn't see the finished LEGO Batmobile.
At the same time I'm glad that I had the chance to be a small part in the history of one of the most iconic movie vehicles of all times. And having my toy signed and approved by Barris himself is like owning a real Batmobile.
