Desolation

Sunset at 4:30pm. Landed in Vegas at 12:30pm, got rental car at 1:30pm, quick grocery stop and on to Death Valley by 2pm. My schedule was already pretty tight to make it to the Ibex Dunes by sunset. I was also hesitant about taking my rental car on dirt roads all the way. Everything was great...until the last section before where I wanted to park. There was a tiny amount of water crossing the road...deifnitely didn't need 4wd, but high clearance would have been nice. Ended up bouncing my bumper off some rocks once on the way in and once on the way out...thankfully rental car company didn't say anything, but I was stressed out. Anyways, finally made it to parking spot at like 4:05pm, dunes are another mile or so hike. So here I am sprinting across this desert flat trying to make it in time. I aimed for one of the highest dunes I saw....this picture is that dune. Literally climbed up to this spot out of breath as sun was setting...wish I could have scouted it out a little more, but that's part of the experience! These dune are really cool and I had them all to myself. Always nice when you have a good experience
