Red Mason Bee

The Females have now ceased laying and we have removed the inner section of the bee box and placed it in a ventilated (with mesh) box in our garage where we hope they will now turn into a pupa which we then remove and store in the fridge over winter and which will eventually be placed in the drawer in the bee box next spring for them to hatch and emerge as bees!!!

The red Mason Bee has economic significance as a pollinator of fruit trees and Oil seed Rape. It is one of the several bee species that can be purchased commercially in Britain to help pollinate crops. (from the Field Guide to the Bees of Great Britain and Ireland, by Stephen Falk)
