Rethink Church
Change the World
On May 7th around 30 people of all ages helped out in Glidden, Iowa (the
littlest helpers stayed at the park to pick up sticks and plant flowers in
pots to take around). Our church took the lead on the event this year,
though members of other churches (including the Presbyterian pastor), and
girl scout leader were involved with us in the planning. The children and
youth cleaned a lot of windows in the homes of elderly community members,
helped a 99 year old man plant his garden, cleaned flower beds and yards.
The adults cleaned gutters, cut down a bush that was blocking the main
entrance to a house, then replanted limited growth decorative bushes in its
place, fixed a set of crumbling porch stairs, and placed a grab bar to
assist a woman who had nothing to hang onto when opening her outside door.
After spending the morning working we had a meal for the volunteers and the
elderly people we had helped. The day was an amazing witness to the love of
Christ that exists in this community! Talk has already begun about next year
focusing on bathroom safety for the elderly.
Peace and blessings,
