Happy Birdday
Beefy’s birthday was a birding extravaganza. We started the day with sunrise donuts at the American River among various waterfowl. I then headed to swim practice and he returned to the river to take pictures (trying to identify a mystery duck!). After lunch, we went to Cosumnes and then Yolo for more bird fun.

The birding highlight was perhaps the giant flock of pelicans we spotted at Cosumnes. We also saw other new-to-us species like the yellow-rumped warbler (also known as the “butterbutt”), pintails, and the red-winged blackbird
