Southwestern Influence

Turquoise, coral, silver, and skulls

I realize I’m conflating the American Southwest with Mexico. I am wearing rings designed in the style of the Hopi, Navajo, and Zuni. The Day of the Dead sugar skulls are Mexican. (And the holiday, itself, has Aztec origins.) It all goes together in my mind.

These hot, dry, summer days make me think of the desert. We’re lucky to have the oases of the American and Sacramento rivers in Sacramento. Not that the desert is all bad. I enjoyed my recent visit to the Las Vegas desert and will be in Arizona at the end of August.
