Too pretty to eat.
~Late posting yet please forgive.~
For Project SoulPancake this week we were to eat something that we don't like. More specifically getting that gag reflex kinda feeling.
I've tried many different kinds of foods that aren't part of regular American diets. Kangaroo, bugs, various sea creatures, goat, hoofs and trotters, tails, tongues, stinky fruits etc. So the list of what makes me gag isn't too huge.
Guess my surprise when my bf brings home snails/escargot from Whole Foods. Perfect! I hadn't even told him about the theme this week. He'll eat just about anything once and hadn't had these in awhile. I've eaten escargot before and didn't care for them. So tough with no great accompanying flavors. Like old left-over gum.
It's a texture thing. I don't care for rubbery food which is usually over cooked squid/calamari/octopus, eggplant etc. I don't care for it.
Perfect time to retest.
The snails came preseasoned with a pepper - parsley sauce. After a quick broil in the oven they were ready. How was it? Actually kinda tender and sweet in a savory way. The sauce completely helped. Some lemon would have been nice but I had some white wine to wash it with. BF agreed the batch we had was some of the better he's eaten.
Result? Not bad. I didn't gag per say. I'm quite happy with trying snails again to retest my pallet. Will I have them in again? Highly unlikely. I do fully agree with opening and reopening my eyes to various foods. This is a good thing for my soul.
Also good alternate for 52 weeks.
