The Aston that Almost Made It

1956 Aston Martin DB3S, the model that finished 2nd at Le Mans 3 times.......and led to the DBR1 that Carroll Shelby (popping nitroglycerin pills all through the race) YES that Shelby in his last race as a driver.....and Roy Salvadori won out right in 1959. That capped 6 British wins over all at Le Mans in the 50s. Amazing.

The DB3S works cars were entered for races on 35 occasions. The results speak for themselves – 15 first places, 13 second places and 7 third places. But an outright victory at Le Mans eluded AML owner, David Brown, so Aston Martin went on to develop the DBR1.

In total, 30 examples of the DB3S were built, 10 were works cars, the remainder were sold to customers who wished to go racing. and wanted to look really good while doing it. This car is owned by the current CEO of Aston Martin/Lagonda, Lawrence Stroll of the UK of course.
