Longchamp B Mascot on a Packard
The magnificent glass sculpture of the 1929 French Lalique Horse Head Mascot leading the charge on the nose of a 1930 Packard 640 Custom 8 LeBaron Phaeton.
The Hippodrome de Longchamp is the name of the famous horse-racing facility in the Bois de Boulogne Park in western Paris. With Emperor Napoleon III in attendance, the track held its first race in 1857.
This is 1 of 3 horse head car mascots marketed by Rene Lalique et Cie. All 3 were created in the summer of 1929 just before the crash. In addition to this model there is also another version of Longchamp and the Epsom. And there is a 4th horse themed car mascot, the amazing Cinq Chevaux (5 Horses). This is the later and more common of the 2 Longchamps, with common being a relative term of course. Compared to the earlier version, this has larger less compact hair in a single row.
